Holiday diary - part 2

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Forgot to mention day 2 in Langkawi - me and Mike got up at 7am to go for a run by the beach, mad huh?

Now here in KL, weather much nicer but Mike’s sick so just been resting. I’m hoping to do some shopping and spend some money, have to drag him out later.. Don’t really have any plans, just shop, eat and maybe go up to the twin tower.

Looking forward to the weekend, we are going to some highland mountain on the way to Penang to spend a night, and hopefully we get to relax by the beach in Penang (my last chance to get a tan)

holiday diary - Langkawi

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

Have a couple of hours to kill before heading to the airport for our flight to Kuala Lumpur so making a quick entry..

Day 1

Finally arrived at Bon Ton resort in Langkawi..completely exhausted having spent 24 hours travelling and not slept at all. Had a snooze before dinner, the friendly resort owner gave me a free top-up of champagne, so needed a drink to unwind, but it’s not difficult to do being in such relaxing environment.

Loved out little wooded malay house it’s basic but tastefully done, people here in this resort are so friendly and the food is wonderful, had a very enjoyable first evening here!

Day 2

Met up with Helen and Anthony at the beach, spent the morning sun-bathing, had some lunch and we decided to hire the catamaran for couple of hours, Captain Mike did a very good job at teaching us how to sail. Everyone enjoyed it very much but we all becoming bit of a lobster..oouch..painful!

Had seafood dinner that evening - cheap and yummy

Day 3

Hired a car for a day to go round the island, the weather let us down though.. we’ve only managed the cable car but we couldn’t see very much because of the cloud, also a pretty exciting ride thanks to the wind!

Didn’t make it to the jungle and waterfalls, it’s too wet and muddy which is a shame.

Went to this very cool Thai restaurant for dinner, the restaurant itself is deep inside the mangrove, it’s a 5 minutes walk to the restaurant from the front entrance.

After dinner we head down to the night market and I wanted to try out all the snacks, I think I would have suffered from tummy ache if Mike didn’t stop me from eating everything, hee hee..

Day 4

Spent 4.5 hours in the spa.. bliss

Then we chilled by the swimming pool before dinner (again at Bon Ton restaurant, the beef satay is the best ever!), feeling guilty for drinking so much though..

Day 5

Had a thunder storm last night and our little hut had a leak.. the force of the wind and rain was pretty spectacular.

Last day in Langkawi and here I am updating my blog.

Just going for a walk now and get a drink, then come back to collect our bags and off to Kuala Lumpur.

Overall -  had a wonder time here in Langkawi and enjoyed staying in this lovely resort but the weather’s been dreadful

Holiday!!

Friday, May 5th, 2006

Heehehehhh.. can’t help having a massive grin on my face when I realised it’s only 10 days to go before we finally get to escape from London and jet off to the sunny Malaysia, and I’m getting 3 weeks off work!! hooarrayyy!!

1st stop - Langkawi. We are staying at Bon Ton Resort for 4 nights to enjoy some spa treatments and get some colour on us before heading down to Kuala Lumpur.

This little resort only have 7 guest houses they are all historical Malay wooden houses, some as old as 100 years which have been transformed into lovely holiday huts. The one we have chosen to stay is Yellow Orchid, which has a open-air bath and sun-deck at the back.

The resort also has one of the finest restaurant in Langkawi, hey, I can’t wait!

Look just how beautiful it is…

Two missions when we get to KL - eat loads of Malay food and do some serious shopping! Er.. and perhaps we can fit in some sightseeing.

Was planning to get a train down to Singapore for couple of days with train journey only 7 hours away, I was really excited about getting the sleeper train as I have never experienced it before, and guess what, the deluxe over-night cabin with private facilities and proper fold-down bed (like the 1st class plane seats) is only £19, and the lowest class - 3rd class seat at only £3 - beat that!! (you will never get that in London, and the trains look decently clean and modern). However, Mike’s dad has invited us to go to Penang instead and do a proper tour around the island… Oh well, I’m sure I will get another chance to go visit Singapore another time.

Feeling bad cos I’m supposed to be detoxing before going away (no alcohol for two weeks) but off course I have failed… out with the gangs on Friday and went for Italian last night, can’t have Italian food without Valpolicella, so a total of 10 units of alcohol this weekend and I’m not proud of it!!

Birthday celebrations

Friday, May 5th, 2006

Finally get a chance to update my blog.. can you believe I even need to schedule a time for a phone call these days, meant to speak with my pension adviser for over two weeks now but I just don’t get a chance to deal with any personal issues anymore during working hours. But, I will be speaking to him next Tuesday at 1pm (hopefully) as I don’t have any meeting planned for that day, so far!

Last weekend we celebrate Mike’s getting old day, it’s great to see everyone again and I think we all had fun despite we’re quite disappointed with the tapas restaurant (especially Mike of course) the food’s not up to standard and we didn’t get a good service. We also realized getting 28 people together for a meal it’s bit of a mission, Mike has already decided not to have a birthday meal again next year. Oh well, at least everyone complimented my cake, I knew Patisserie Valerie won’t let me down!! :)

We went to see The Rat Pack for his actual birthday, it was funny that we almost missed the show as we were chatting at restaurant beforehand and lost track of the time, so we were running to the theatre and got there the very last second before the show begins, and because we have the centre stage seats, everyone had to get up to let us in which is quite embarrassing! Well, we did get offer the spare seats a row ahead at the side but I refused to take those crappy seats, who wants to sit there when you have the best seats in the house, huh!?

The show’s fantastic and we laughed so much that we were in tears, really really enjoyed it.. it’s such shame that we don’t get the chance to see the original Rat Pack though, I’m sure it would have been 10 times better and funnier!!
